The German Bundestag invites committed university graduates from universities in Germany for ’s programs degree from South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia to a scholarship program in Berlin in January 2022.

The idea of German Bundestag International Parliamentary Scholarships:

Since 2020, the German Bundestag has been offering universities in Germany for masters’ programs degree programs for politically committed young university graduates from South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana who are interested in the German parliamentary system and who actively support basic democratic values ​​in their home countries.

In a four-week compact program, eight fellows can get to know the German parliamentary universities in Germany for masters system and political decision-making processes in the German Bundestag up close.

Students from 42 countries are eligible, including Central, Eastern, or South-Eastern Europe, France, Israel, North America, and the Arab region. The program aims to:

  • Promote relations between Germany and the participating countries
  • Consolidate democratic values and tolerance
  • Deepen understanding of cultural diversity
  • Secure peaceful coexistence in the world.

Benefits of German Bundestag International Parliamentary Scholarships

Accepted applicants will be eligible for the following benefits:

  • Selected participants for the programme will receive a monthly scholarship grant worth 500 euros.
  • The German Bundestag will also cover the costs related to health, accident and personal liability insurance.
  • All participants will receive accommodation in an apartment complex for the full duration of the programmes.
  • The programmes will also cover the costs related to travel to and from Berlin.

The scholarships of German Bundestag International Parliamentary:

The participants receive a grant of 500 euros. In addition, the costs for health, accident, and liability insurance are covered. In addition, free accommodation is granted in a residential complex (two-person shared apartment). The costs of travel to and from Berlin will be reimbursed.

The selection process of German Bundestag International Parliamentary Scholarships:

The scholarship program is aimed at committed, open-minded, resilient, and politically interested young professionals from South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana who want to actively and responsibly shape the democratic future of their countries.

Applicants are invited to a personal selection interview in the German embassies in the participating countries and are selected by an independent selection committee of the German Bundestag about their professional, social, linguistic, and intercultural skills.

The cost of traveling to the interview will be reimbursed on a pro-rata basis, provided the interviews are not held in your home country.

The admission requirements:

  • Citizenship of one of the three participating countries (dual citizenship possible)
  • Younger than 30 years at the beginning of the scholarship
  • Completed university degree
  • Very good knowledge of the German language
  • Interest in political contexts as well as social / political engagement

Eligibility criteria of German Bundestag International Parliamentary Scholarships:

To apply, make sure that you meet the following conditions

  • Applicants for the programme must be citizens of one the participating countries.
  • At the time of commencement of the programme, you must be under the age of 30
  • Applicants must possess a university degree if they are to be considered University degree
  • You are required to have a very good knowledge of German in order to apply
  • Applicants must demonstrate interest in politics, and social/political commitment

Application process procedure:

Interested eligible applicants must send their fully completed online application documents by email as a PDF file. The PDF file name should consist of the applicant’s surname followed by their given name. Applications must be mailed to the German mission in the applicant’s home country.

The complete application must include the following documents

  • Complete the Application form available on the programme website.
  • You must include evidence of sufficient knowledge of German.
  • Also include a Copy of your passport or ID card.
  • You must also include a certified copy of university degree certificate.
  • Request a Letter of recommendation in either German or English from a university professor or current employer.

The application process of German Bundestag International Parliamentary Scholarships:

Applications for this scholarship program are submitted via email using the address specific to your country. Please note that the deadline for application is different for each country, therefore visit your country-specific webpage to see the deadline for application.

Your application will require you to submit the following documents

  • Download and fill and sign the Application form (to be filled in German).
  • A well written motivation letter of no more than 2 pages, written German and signed by hand.
  • Your University certificates and Diplomas (original or officially certified copy in German or English, scanned).
  • Proof of very good German language skills of at least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  • Request two (2) letters of recommendation to be issued in German or English. One of the letters must be from a university lecturer or from the employer.
  • Submit a recent photo as an image file.
  • You must also include a Copy of the passport or copy of the ID card.
  • You application portfolio must be sent by mail to the address specified under the application details on your country specific webpage.
