NIG Summer Internship in Japan 2021 (fully funded)

Provided by The National Institute of Genetics (NIG) / Department of Genetics, SOKENDAI offers a research training program for undergraduate and graduate students who wish to gain research experience in genetics and related fields in the life sciences.

About the NIG training:

Our program includes research training, scientific communication, and laboratory visits to discuss with individual principal investigators.

Interns can also participate in various activities such as graduate program lectures, journal clubs, and seminars by prominent researchers inside and outside NIG.

At the end of the program, participants will give a presentation on their experience called the “NIGINTERN Reports Seminar”.

Why might we choose to apply for the NIG Summer Internship?

The program includes research training, scientific communication, and laboratory visits for discussion with the principal researchers.

Interns can also participate in various activities such as graduate program lectures, periodic critical discussion meetings.

Intern students will conduct independent research under the direction of a NIG host researcher.

NIG will award a certificate to those who have successfully completed the program.

Details of the NIG Summer:

  • Internship Country: Japan.
  • Audience: Bachelor’s and Master’s students.
  • Duration: Jun 17 – Jul 28, 2021 (6 weeks).
  • Financial Coverage: Fully Funded.
  • Application deadline: January 7, 2021.
  • By Early March, 2021: Result Announcement.
  • March to May: Arrangement for Travel.
  • June 17 to July 28: the Internship.

The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Djibouti, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Comoros, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen.

Features of the NIG Summer Internship Program:

  • Air travel and travel insurance costs will be covered by NIG during the program.
  • NIG will cover the cost of domestic transportation fares between the airport in Japan and NIG.
  • Allowance will also be provided for meals (approx. 1500JPY / day).
  • NIG will cover the costs for the institute’s guesthouse.

Note:

Students are responsible for other living expenses such as local transportation, private trips, and entertainment on weekends.

Conditions and Criteria:

For undergraduate:

Students should provide the latest certificate Transcripts.

Also should provide a recommendation letter from their students.

For master’s students:

Be in the first year of a two-year master’s program, or in the fifth year of a 6-year program.

PhD student:

  • Compliance with NIG Regulations.
  • Unpublished NIG information kept confidential.
  • Completing the tasks, tasks and project related to the training experience.

To receive financial support:

  • Full training period (full-time five days a week until the end of the specified period).
  • Make an oral presentation on the appointed day.
  • Submit an essay and questionnaire at the end of the training period.

First Step:

Second Step:

Register in the online application form by clicking on “User Registration” and obtaining a login password.

* After registration, a confirmation email with order number and password will be sent to your email address.

Third Step:

Fill out the online application and upload the following documents:

  1. Motivation letter About 500 English words.
  2. Curriculum vitae, including educational record starting from high school, with reference to the current academic year.
  3. Official transcript: Submit a copy of your undergraduate or postgraduate degrees.
  4. Two letters of recommendation from your teachers.
